Well it's been awhile since I published on my blog as time is speeding by.

I was asked to sell at Matilda's Mouse in Valley Center and with my partners Bonnie P. and Bonnie M. we quickly got our space ready for the first weekend in November show.

It was hard work but we pulled it off and had fun meeting new people and sold some great STUFF.

Now we are getting ready for Matilda's next sell December 2,3, 4th. If you've never been, you need to go and see how much work goes into creating a winter wonderland.

In between my friend, June and I celebrated our birthday on November 10th with a Caravan ride at Safari Park in Escondido. Wow, it was fun being close up with the animals and feeding giraffes, and rhinos.

Also, on the SAME weekend of Matilda's we are doing The Vintage Marketplace, one of our favorites. An outdoor faire that brings lots of vendors from far away with great buys.

Make a day of it and visit Matilda's and The Vintage Marketplace. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The Vintage Marketplace is Dec. 2 and 3 and Matilda's Dec. 2, 3, 4.

Vintage Marketplace at the Oaks

Well, if you are a shopper of fun, vintage, antique, rusty, unique items then you probably where at the Vintage Marketplace at the Oaks in Fallbrook last weekend.

Bonnie and I did our first show and had a great time. We appreciate all our friends coming out to support us and visit with us and check out all the other great vendors at the show. There were 40 vendors altogether with lots of great STUFF.

Fun was had by all and we will be back December 2 and 3rd with more STUFF, more fun, more vintage. Can't wait!

I shipped 17 boxes!!! to myself from the midwest when I attended the 650 mile garage sale. Whoa, next time I'm taking the car for sure.

My friend, Kat gave me a cute little rolltop desk and I thought I could use it in my bedroom to "organize" my paperwork....well maybe it will work. tee hee

Anyway, I decided to paint it. It took a whole other direction while painting, doesn't it always? I liken it to old weathered wood. I got it in my bedroom ready to "organize".

Maybe another day I will change the color as the mood strikes but for now loving it!

It's kinda overcast aNd rainy today but suppose to be in the 80's by the end of the week with High humidity fun!

We went over to Peace Haven today to put on a little program for the retirement home. Linda is in charge of her churches presentation once a year. We sang and played game and had homemade strawberry pies yummmmm

The other day we went to another town to get groceries (no grocery store in her hometown) and on the way home ran into a caravan of tractors going down the road...must have been a 100. I took a video but darn it can't make it work.

At American Pickers fest we saw a lady that had kitty shoes and sense Linda is considered "the cat lady" she had to buy a pair. of corse those shoes were Doc Martens and pretty high priced bur I found a knock off pair on the net. Aren't they cute?

We were busy cleaning our finds from the thrift store and Bo thought he get in on the cleaning.

See this cool old stove, it sold for $20 at the auction the other day!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm off to watch the corn grow, more later.

American Pickers Day 2

Well another hot and humid day with a few sprinkles thrown in. We headed down to the Levee on the Mississippi to claim our spot to watch Danielle and Mike answer questions about their show.

We got there early to get a good parking space and then hit a flea market and found a few treasures While Linda took my new/old baby carriage to the car I went and got seats on the grass.

Mike and Danielle were very nice and interesting. Frank was not there....heard thru the rumor mill he has a gig with craftsman (sears) doing a tool show throughout the states.

After we rested, we went to see Bridesmaids at the movies... Fuuuunnnnny. Don't take the hubby go with girlfriends.

American Pickers Day 1

We arrived last night and woke up early to go to garage sales and check out Le Claire, the home of the American Pickers.

It was 90 degrees by 11am and with the humidity felt like 100 degrees so we came back by 6pm and relaxed.

The car is full but we're going back tomorrow for more!!!

Today, more than ever, is a day to remember. A year ago, my life was so different from today. I sometimes try to remember what I was doing and what Frank, my husband, said to me .. If we laughed or hugged.

Frank was a proud American and so this day not only reminds me of those still fighting to protect our freedom but of him also.

CREATE and Leighanna Light

I drove up to Costa Mesa on Thursday to attend a class led by Leighanna Light called Metal Deck. This is one of the classes at the art retreat CREATE

It was a great class and fun to work with metal and tools. Leighanna, to me, is a great assemblage artist that is low-keyed and shares her knowledge.

We each got 10 pieces of 4 x 3 tins. We sanded each piece front and back and began our journey altering the metal and collaging. We used some new tools and know I will be making a trip to Harbor Freight for some cool shopping :}

Even though I knew most of the techniques, I learned some good tips and how to use what I have already differently. Can't wait to do more.

Grand Opening of My Store

Since I've been going through my STUFF, I realized I need an outlet to either sell some of this STUFF and give me a "healthy" reason to be shopping :} Or, if it doesn't work out, maybe I'm going in the wrong direction.

To that end, I rented a tiny, tiny space at Country Flowers in Escondido. Today I went in and hauled some of my STUFF in to sell. I had fun setting up my space and deciding what goes where.

If you're in the area, come on by and check out my STORE as well as all the other fun furniture and goodies to be had. WARNING, unfortunately there is no air conditioning so pick a cooler day to check it out or wear your cute summer top.

Country Flowers, 523 West Valley Parkway, open Tuesday thru Saturday 10am to 5pm, lots of parking. This store is located on a one-way street heading west so mapquest it first before going if you have never been there before.

We had a REAL good time, soldering and collaging

April 30th Rita of Mammabellarte and myself taught a class fabric Collage with Soldering accents.

5 students came and in the morning Rita led our the ladies through the steps of soldering words like AMORE, LOVE, MOTHER each letter an individual piece that would be sewn to the fabric collage we did in the afternoon.

Rita came with a slow cooker full of meatballs with yummy sauce, bread and we added ceasar salad yummmmmm!

In the afternoon, we worked on our fabric collages and I must say each turned out unique and beautiful.

Layers of lace and material and embellishments helps bring a story to each person's center piece....... a picture of loved ones.

Rita and I will be doing our Fabric Collage with Solder Pieces on April 30th. I can't wait to see what the ladies come up with. I am always inspired by other people's work because although we each see something together we create differently.

Last weekend I went to Matilda's Mouse and Urban barn TWICE. They are just so yummy I love to go and went on Friday and Saturday with different friends.

On Saturday, after Urban Barn we even went to the Flower Fields to see Rita. It was a lovely, warm weekend.

Jamestown Flea Market in Tustin

Well, the day arrived and Bonnie Petersen and Bonnie Miyamoto and I took my little red truck and headed up the road to Tustin. We met in a parking lot at 5:45am and off we went.

The clouds were dark and the weather cool. We got there easily and were directed to our spot by Dianne of Whimzy. We started unloading and setting out our items.

The clouds decided to drizzle a little on us and then come down a little harder. Bonnie P. had packed some plastic sheets (thank you Bonnie) and we covered what we could and stood in a huddle under our umbrellas.

Now the California rain did not deter shoppers who came and peeked under our plastic and even bought from us as it rained.

It finally stopped and we uncovered and went about our business meeting other vendors and nice shoppers. Then a little more rain, a little more plastic.

by 10am the clouds rolled on thru and the sun came out brilliantly. All and all it was a fun and a good day. We met fun people and learned lots of secrets of selling and even booked a date for the May fleamarket cause we are a gluten for punishment....not really we know May will be nicer weather.....won't it???

How Do They Do That?

As I told you in my last post, we're gearing up to sell at the Jamestown FleaMarket Sunday, March 27.

Now I love to go to Flea Markets, Urban Barn, Chateau de Fleur, Glitterfest and look and be inspired and YES buy!

So I think, Hey I got STUFF...I want to sell it, I'll do one of these shows. Geez, I've been gathering and working on this for a few weeks. At least I'm "staging" (that's the slang in the business for setting your STUFF up prior to a show to see how looks....or that's what I call it :} and it's HARD to put lots of STUFF on a table and make it look pretty and then figure out prices.

I know it's not gonna be fun packing the truck either ha ha But it will be fun selling with my friends and seeing what sells and what doesn't and see if this is something I want to continue to do.

As I gather my STUFF, I do see I have many varied interests but maybe I'm too scattered but a girl wants what she wants :}

If it's not raining and you want to have a day out with girls, stop by and see us. I'll let you know how it goes.

Getting Ready for Jamestown Village Fleamarket in Tustin

The two Bonnie's and myself have decided to sell at the Jamestown Village Fleamarket in Tustin March 27th.

A couple months ago we took a trip to Matilda's Mouse and stopped at a little antique store and found a old oak chest. The price was right and we decided to buy it and give it a new life with a little paint and new vintage hardware.

I stored it and Bonnie came over and sanded and painted.

I think it's a looker. We'll be taking it to the Tustin Flea Market and hopefully it will find a new home.

Weekend fun

Saturday I started doing my taxes and cleaning the garage. When I got bored with one, I worked on the other. Alas, both are not done...oh well.

Saturday evening I went and visited with a dear friend Matina, who lost her husband a year ago. We planned to go to dinner so I decided we should have a little happy hour first. I brought my bottle of Margarita's already mixed up with tequila and mix. Only $10.99 for a liter at Costco....the Kirkland brand, good stuff!!

We talked and "sipped" and had some fun. She knew I had been eyeing her little vintage chair in her garage for awhile but I know she doesn't give up things easily (who doesn't :} and if it held memories for her I didn't want to take it from her. She had been thinking about it and decided to give it to me with one caveate, I CAN'T SELL IT!!! I would NeVer.

This chair was hers when she was 6 years old, oh my......I told her my only wish is to see a picture of her in that chair as a child. Wouldn't that be cute? I think so.

And, yes, we did go to dinner.

Sunday I went to a class at PaperTales with Rita and her sister-in-law Christie. We made a ring pin cushion taught by Sabrina. She does beautiful hand work and I worked hard on my pincushion but I know now why I funked Sewing in school. It's not my thing, too tedious for me I guess but all our rings came out pretty darn cute. To see the others run on over to Rita's blog, she took lots of pictures of the rings and the store.

New Week, New "Adventures"

Art and Soul "The Week that Was"

June, my good friend, accompanied me to Art and Soul. While I took classes, she tried out the spa and read poolside. We stayed at the Green Valley Ranch in Henderson. This is a beautiful resort and I would go there again in a heartbeat.

On Monday, no classes. We rented a car and hit the thrift stores of Henderson and Vegas but really decided California thrift stores have more "gold" than Nevada. We did go downtown Vegas to see where the Pawn Stars pawn store was. Have you seen this show on tv?

The store is kinda small but TV definitely has put them on the map and lots of people were milling around with cameras. The biggest seller in the store was souvenir tees and cups and pens. If you watch the show CHUMLEY is the big seller there :}

We decided to take a lunch stop and asked "JACK" June's GPS for some restaurant selections and we decided on Mustang Sally's. As we drove there we wondered if it was a out-of-the-way dive because JACK seemed to be taking us to an industrial type area.

We arrived at a Ford dealership and there was Mustang Sally's. A hip 50's type soda shop. The food was good and the decor great. Apparently, the owner of the Ford dealership built the restaurant as a way to give customers a free lunch after buying a car but word is out and people come for good burgers and shakes.

I took a class from Thomas Ashman handcrafting a glass journal from glass and wire. My hands were sore but beautiful product and get techniques. I would always recommend a class with Thomas.

I also took a class with Ty and Marcia Schultz in making molds and pouring hot metal to make beautiful charms. Fun class with great take aways but I fear, too expensive for me to do in "real life".

I also took the Whimiscal Music Dog with Julie Haymaker. Fun class and Julie is just so good at what she does. The class turned out beautiful paper clay doggies and whimiscal music boxes. Great fun!

Whew! that was fun can't wait for another.

Art and Soul Sunday, Feb 27th

I have been here in Henderson, Nevada 3 days now and having a great time. I decided I will do the posting to my blog in increments because there is just so much and I know I will never really capture what is happening but it's FUN!

There was a vendor show Sunday night, one of the reasons why we came sunday instead of Monday. Unfortunately there were only 10 vendors but it was still fun and some amazing art. I got to see some of the artists I will be taking classes from so that was nice.

Trish of Vintage Bliss was here and she is so sweet and I admire her attitude of always being pleasant and always trying to bring "the bling" and great vintage finds to all the shows she does.

I took a few pics and you should check out her blog to see her "before" and "after" pics of her booth. We stopped by at 6pm when the show opened and my friend June and I went to dinner and came back in before 9pm when the show closed and she was in the mist of a hoard of shoppers. On her blog she says her table looks like a turkety on thanksgiving that was all picked over.....and she was right. Just shows if you bring what people want ....it will sell. ha ha

I bought just a couple pieces vintate metal for use in art but was so happy to see "all things vintage" and "all things artistic".

Art & Soul Via Las Vegas Here I Come!

Leaving on a jet plane and I don't when I'll be back again......

Okay so I know when I'll be back but can't wait to get there and enjoy the creative juices.

My friend, June is going with me and SHE's NOT EVEN TAKING CLASSES but she says she has her luggage jam packed with romance novels and ready to relax....what a great friend.

We are attending the vendor show Sunday night and I am hoping to scope out some of the instructors for future classes as well as pick up some great "STUFF".

I'm taking a class with Julie Haymaker Thompson and using paper clay to make a whimsical music box. I have taken classes with Julie before an enjoy her teaching techniques and creativity. Can't wait.

Then Wednesday I'm taking a class with Ty & Marcia Schultz, Metal Steampunk & Milagro and we will melting metal and pouring it into silicone molds and creating molds and metal castings.

Thursday a class with Thomas Ashman to create a mini glass journal....copper, wire, paper and glass.

When I finish a class I hope to post it but don't hold me to it...depends on if I'm winning at the blackjack table :}

I worked on my art trades so I would be able to trade with other artists at the retreat. As usual, my work table is always in an uproar but I have finished and put it all away neatly...yay me!

KC Willis Visits My Art Studio

KC Willis of Lipstick Ranch in Colorado came to Southern California to enjoy our wonderful weather and teach her fab classes. I was lucky enough to host her Storytelling Fabric Book Class at my home Saturday.

8 talented ladies arrived and as KC spread her delicious fabric, doo das and embellishments out, we all dug in to tell our stories in fabric.

It was a wonderful day and if only you could see the detail in each of our books you would swoon I am sure because I loved each one and the story they told of family and in Nelda's case a sweet little birdy story.

All You Need Is Friends........

Today was Art Meetup day and my friends came and we did show and tell to catch up on what everyone has been doing.

I was excited to have everyone see my "new" art studio and even had each person go upstairs and find pieces to go on my new cabinets. We had fun decorating....at least I enjoyed it. ha

Kathy showed us Kumihimo, an art of twisting fibers. Wow it is amazing watching her twist those fibers, Kat had her art journals she has been working on...love the "look", Sally had her crown from soldering class and her knitted purses (check out her pics here)....so talented, Margo had her daughters cool art journals and then showed us her oh so wonderful soldered pieces, Lucinda had her polymer hearts, lovely and June had her beautiful button flowers, Bonnie her creative handmade greeting cards, journal and canvas so cute. Me....no artistic endeavors have been done lately but showed off my cool junk finds my friend, Linda from Iowa brought to me.

Now I feel inspired by my friends work and my studio.......I'm primed to create yay!

Rita, Rita Cabinet Maker Extraordinaire

I had a vision to remake my living room into my art room and started looking at old doors. First I was going to get old doors and nail against the wall for what I call "the look".

Then it came to me.......why just put doors on a wall, make them functional by making storage cabinets out of them. I found the old doors that were oh so pretty and crackly and shabby chic and then thought of Rita :} because she knows "the look" and she creates "the look" in all of her work.

I love that Rita is such a mover and shaker and works with wood so I asked if she would build me cabinets from my old doors. She figured it out and said sure. She worked on them between her fab soldering classes and oh so elegant Chateau de Fleurs.

Her husband, Dean came with her to help (no substitute for muscle :} They worked together to give me a killer wall of cabinets. Thank you both.

Art Meetup in February ShARING and Caring!

My friend, June came to an art meetup last year where we were making "button flowers". She has taken button flowers to a whole new level and I love her stories of searching, cleaning, sorting and making button flowers.

Rita and I have been talking about collabrating on something creative. We've come up with a combo class involving fabric collage and soldering of charms.

After attending a KC Willis Class last year, I was inspired to take what I learned in her class of fabric collage and tweek it to personalize it with my style. Working with cloth is just another texture that inspires creativity.

I have done a couple fabric collage classes and I can't tell you how rewarding it is to see each person's memories come to life or see their artistic flair take over layering of random pieces of fabric and lace and jewels. You'll be adding soldering pieces will complete a beautiful piece of art.

Matilda's Mouse Shopping Spree

Today Linda, Bonnie and Bonnie went on a little shopping spreee we were heading out to Matilda's Mouse in Valley Center but spotted a sale along the road and had to make a u-turn to check it out.

We found some good deals and had lots of laughs and piled back in my truck to head on to Matilda's Mouse.

Matilda's did not dissappoint and we found treasures. They are "buried in my truck under a cute old dresser we bought so pics of those will come tomorrow.

Thursday Post...Random Thoughts

I'm having such a great time with my friend, Linda and we have been furniture shopping looking for a red couch but it's pretty darn hard. Oh well this weekend we'll try some flea market shopping to break up the furniture shopping and get us inspired.

Friday we're off to Matildas Mouse. Have you been? If you haven't you need to check it out. I'll take pics and do a post on that tomorrow afternoon.

Saturday maybe some garage sales and thrift stores....who knows what we'll find......a red couch???

Sunday we're off to Tustin to the Jamestown Flea Market and checking in on Whimzy. They do Glitterfest and they LOVE everything vintage and that sparkles.

Now you know my itinerary....what are you doing the rest of the week?

My Friend has Come to Town

Yay my good, long time friend is here to visit me from Iowa left Iowa yesterday at 25 degrees and snowing and arrived in 80 degree sunny California....shes loving it.

My rabbit loves her cause she pets and pets him.

Linda brought me some goodies from Iowa. She said oops these are rusty so you might not like them. ha ha who's she kidding I love the RUST.

She also brought me a little bag of cracker jack toys and doo dads....love them. Do you remember when Avon would give out little sample lipsticks? WEll, they did and there's a couple of those in there....so fun, brings back memories.

Fabric Creativity

I recenlty held a class at the Cornerstore in El Cajon. Do you know it? A cute little shabby chic store with lots of vintage furniture and cute decorator type embellishments. Check it out sometime. Anyway......I taught a class in Fabric Collage and had a wonderful class of 5 students who each created a unique and fab piece.

I teaming up with the charming, talented and creative Rita of Mammabellarte and Chateau de Fleurs,fun soldering classes, etc. etc. We'll be doing a class combo you're going to love on April 30th....more on that soon.

I also want to give the "Graphics Fairy" credit for the graphics I love to use. I always check out her site for graphics and inspiration.

7 Days of Bloggging or How I got my Blog Back

Well it's been awhile since I blogged and to tell you the truth I had thought about just NEVER blogging again but I always seem to run into beautiful art or great sales or just want to share a special day. So I decided I need to "get my Blog on".

To that end, I've decided to blog for 7 days in a row and what better day to start than a Sunday.

Today I think I'll just do some "random blogging" but I am in the mist of redecorating my downstairs and will have lots to share so check back in.

Last year, my friend Sandy of Sandy's Creations had an egg carton swap, here's what I put together. It was fun organizing and finding treasures to share and of course, fun to get an egg carton from someone else. I'll take pictures of what I got one of these days. I have an egg carton almost empty...anyone want to swap?

I'm off to play with old music sheets I found while going thru my things. Attempting another wreath like the one below I made last year. Happy Sunday!

Sandy Creates........A Magazine!

For quite awhile now I have carried on a kind of pen pal relationship (internet style) with Sandy of Sandy Creates.

I found her one day while browsing Esty and had her do a couple blog banners for me and then became a fan of her art. She lives in Canada and is a Mother of 3 but seems to find time and energy to put into her art.

She even came to San Diego and I got to meetup with her. I have purchased her art and admire her "get up and go". :}

Well Sandy just completed a Magazine filled with great ideas on organzing an Art Retreat. She organizes an Art Retreat every year with her gal pals. The magazine not only gives some great info on how to organize and run an Art Retreats but it has Art, recipes and inspiration.

She is having a give-a-way on her blog for the magazine, so check it out but if you don't win, buy one! ha

We all need a little support from our friends from time to time. It encourages us and inspires our art.

Fabric Collage Class at The Corner Store

Last week I had fun leading a Fabric Collage Class in El Cajon at the fab store The Corner Store. A great store to find some vintage furniture and great unique gift items.

The ladies took some pieces of cloth and bits and pieces of gems and jewelry and made some wonderful collages. They turned out so lovely. I think a fun time was had by all.

Loving Friends Comfort and Help....

I am oh so lucky to have loving and creative friends that are there for me when I need it the most.

My daughter-in-law suggested I ask my friends to help me collage pictures of my husband for his Celebration of Life because she knows how creative they are. I thought what a wonderful idea because everyone has been offering their help and support and sometimes it isn't so easy to ask or know what is best.

Today friends came that could and oh so pumped me up and inspired me to work through my emotions as I dig through my pictures of a lovely life with my husband Frank. I am so glad for those memories.

I realize Love hasn't left but has manifested itself in all my friends and family support and compassion.

A friend suggested doing the collages on 12 x 12 scrapbook paper so that after I can put them into a scrapbook and have them to share for years to come. They look AWESOME and I want to do more on my own.

Thank you dear friends for helping and those that couldn't I know "life happens" and I will depend on you for more support as time goes on and hopefully I can repay that support by doing the same for others.

When Love Leaves, What do you do?

Friends you may have noticed I have not been blogging lately. It's because my husband, Frank had been declining and lots to do. Unfortunately, on Monday, September 6, 2010 he passed away in the early morning hours in his sleep.

I am blessed to have friends and family to help me through this time and wish each day that this is but a dream. We all know death is a certainity and I must be glad that I had 25 wonderful years with my husband and remember the love and good times we had and continue on.

Never Alone

When I looked out over the patio tonight I noticed a single star,
With fog so dense you couldn't see the moon, I new it could only be you.

I stared at you for a while hoping for a reason,
Then realized at that very moment that you weren't gone at all,
In fact you are and always will be alive in our hearts and memories,
Your love is strong Frank,
So strong in fact that it has burned a hole in the fog,
Just so that the light of you can keep us warm and protected at night.

Bling Baby

I was lucky enough to attend a class Sunday lead by the artist, Lisa Loria. Her "Bling Babies" are so cute and even useful as a jewelry holder. She has been selling these cuties for awhile now but decided to show us some of "secrets" to making these vintage babes.

The night before, I had my bag of doll parts, hack saw, glue gun and bird cage ready to go.

Lisa had the class in Rita's workshop in Rainbow, California. This, in itself, was a win-win situation because I have been wanting to check out Rita's workshop where she makes her lovely creations.

Greeted by Rita and Dean's 3 (I think there were only 3) doggies I walked into Rita's little workshop where the magic happens :} Lisa had her baubles, bling and lamp pieces and some of her Bling Babies ready for us to use and be inspired by.

We didn't have use our hack saws because Rita had a band saw and she got good at sawing little dollies in half.

Lisa helped us build our very own "bling babies" and gave us some great information and hints and techniques that helped us build our girlies into little works of art.

OMG talk about Procastination!

I know I am the queen of procrastination and have to confess it here on my blog.

My sister took her daughter and friend to New York to see Wicked and spent a fun week of sightseeing. After her return, she asked me if I would do a scrapbook for my niece and my niece's friend.

I said sure, give me the pictures and I'll do it. It took her about 6 months to FINALLY get the pictures to me........that was about January, 2009!!

Ahhhhh yes, I've had these pictures in my hand for over a year and half....eeeeeekkkkk.....I started, stopped, changed my mind, started, stopped, got sick, went shopping, painted a room, watched TV, played with my friends.......started, labored over how terrible I was....you get the picture.......PROCRASTINATION@!@!!

Well I am here to tell you TODAY I delivered the FINISHED scrapbooks to my sister, apologized over and over. She ooo'd and aww'd and complimented me and appreciated my work......luckily, she's my sister and she knows me and she had just moved on with her life while I agonized over getting those *@*#! scrapbooks done.

I'm really not sure why it was so hard for me......I wanted to make more of an altered scrapbook but in the end, because of all the photos felt it was better to be nearer to a "regular" scrapbook.....so I think that held me back as I kept questioning if it was too boring.

A weight has been lifted and now I feel like I can get back to creating with some of the ideas that have been flying through my head...........if I don't Procrastinate AGAIN. ha ha

Can't Put KC Willis in a Box or can You?

If you read my blog or have talked to me recently, you know that I took a class with KC Willis here in San Diego at the Urban Barn and she will be coming back in February for more FANTASTIC classes.

KC also offers her classes on DVD (next best thing to her being here :) and she has put them in a box with her signed art but I guess the demand has been so great and she is so busy with her road trip classes that she will be discontinuing them soon.

Art Meetup Fabric Collaging

I invited the ladies over to try out some of the techniques I learned in my KC Willis class, collaging with fabric.

We used just glue and no sewing and I think they turned out beautifully. What do you think?

Lucinda choose a bird picture and wanted to go "organic". I Love that Word! She wanted the feel of nature in her collage and I think she pulled it off...love it!

Kat choose to do a collage around a picture of her Grandmother dressed in one of her stage costumes. She looks so dramatic in her picture. Kat had the brooch and necklace she was wearing in the picture to add more sentiment to her collage. Love it!

This is my collage....I haven't quite finished it but you get the idea...Marie, Marie, Marie.

June choose a picture of her in-laws wedding picture. Such a sweet picture. I know they will swoon when they receive it as a present. Good job June :}

Well back to collaging, more later.

White Wednesday

Already a week has passed and it's WHiTE WeDnEsday again. You have to be quick to be listed on Faded Charm's blog though and even though I didn't get to put a link there I decided to go ahead and post my "whites".

First, I want thank Rita at Mammabellarte for giving me the secret of how she has been doing collage pics on her blog. I am trying out a couple collages here, it's fun.

For this White Wednesday post I went around my house and snapped pics of my "white" objects to share.

Here's my "chippy, rusted white" meal stool. I love the look and feel of it.

Here's my dictionary paper sphere....these are fun to create and I think, have a great look about them.

Play Date

Yesterday I went to Georgia's, a friend of mine. Georgia is a very talented artist and always has alot of fun ideas.

Sometimes we take on a big project and other times we just share our projects and discuss what's happening in our lives. So since we didn't have a specific project, but I had brought along my umbrella to show Georgia my flowers that I am attempting to cover it with......we decided to just make FLOWERS and talk.

Of course, one cannot "create" without dragging out tons of stuff and pile it on the table.....we need "stuff" to dig thru ha ha

Check out this cute project Georgia had for a class using paperclay. They're "shell people". Made out a wood block, paperclay for molding the face and shells to embellish. cute!

Georgia also had some pages from an altered book she's making out of cardboard. A little paint, collaging, stamping....oooh it's going to be lovely when she's done.

Okay, enough show and tell.....down to chatting and making flowers for my umbrella and whatever Georgia's want to do with hers.....who knows :}

We got busy....and had some fun!

Making flowers reminds me to take time to smell the flowers along the way and enjoy those friendships that make us happy. Thanks Georgia can't wait for our next "play date."

White Wednesday Post

I have been checking out blogs, as many of you do, and one of the things I love is seeing the posts from "White Wednesday" over at Faded Charm Cottage blog. Actually, Rita at Mammabellarte got me started with her great creations that she posts on "White Wednesday".

I found this chair at the thrift store and loved the shape of it so I had a vision and bought it.

I had also purchased a sheet at the thrift store last year that was white with french wording and knew it would look wonderful on this chair.

I painted the wood trim white and took it to my upholstery guy and I was blown away when I picked it up.

Pictured in the chair is a little vintage Madame Alexander doll I got at a garage sale for $1 and a little pillow out of a satin pillow case I made today. I'll blog about that later in the week.

What do you think? I might keep it or maybe sell it but for now I'm just loving it.

KC Has Left the Building...Thank you Very Much!

Yesterday was a fun, creative day with a class lead by KC Willis of Lipstick Ranch. The class was held at he Urban Barn in Escondido.

We had plenty of room in their amazing warehouse/classroom. 10 Ladies came together to learn the techniques of making one of KC's fabric collages. We had such a great time and I learned some great techniques and loved KC's stories. Her humor and willingness to share was inspirational.

Even though KC has left I'll be able to look at my collage and know she's speaking to me :}

I'm so glad KC was able to make it to San Diego but even though she has left she let us know she'll be back in February for a two-day class creating her fabric collage book. More on that soon. To see some more great pics of the class, check out Silly Sal's blog.

Urban Barn Grand Opening

Over the weekend, the Urban Barn aka La Maison Rustique had their grand opening at their new location in Escondido, California.

Of course, it was one of hottest weekends and made it hard to get out but if you got out there it was worth it to see all the eye candy and all the work the "ladies" of the barn did to pull it all together.

Here's some pics for your enjoyment, as always, I was amazed at all the goodies and how they were fashioned.

They had wine bottles with URBAN BARN labels setup in their cute little snack bar area.

In the back of the warehouse, they were going to have their "blogger party" in the afternoon. It was beautifully decorated with two loooong tables with antique centerpieces. Check out all the paper globes in the ceiling.

Brilliant idea.....little wooden planks with a dollie and a small mason jar for burger sliders and beer tasting. Yee haw!!!

There was a class going on while the shoppers shopped. Julie Nutting was leading a class on her just published in Somerset Paper Couture. Oh so lovely.

There was a vendor faire going on in the side lot with over 20 vendors with plenty of lovelies.

Lisa Loira of Vintagebling4u was their with her cute altered dollies. She is holding a class on how to make these bling babies on August 22 in San Diego. If you are interested, check out her blog.

Retreat Style was at the party with their special look. Man they had some great pieces and wonderful visions of shabby chic.

Of course, Rita of Mammaralle was their with her beautiful wares.

Tricia Vintage Bliss was their from Arizona with her oh so great fun "stuff". I love shopping with Tricia because she always has something new!

Becky Wimbs had some cute items. I bought a reproduction Mother and child santos...I call it...you can kinda see it next to the lamp. I'll post a pic one of these days.
To top off the party, Urban Barn has a band play in the back of Mary's sweet pickup truck. So fun!

What do you do when friends come by to be Creative?

Today was art meetup at my home. Once a month I ask friends to come over and use my stuff to do a project. We were going to do some ATC trading cards but when Kat showed up she asked me what I had been doing. I told her I had taken a soldering class and now realize I need to practice.

She said she wanted to solder and practice too and said "why don't we do that?" Yep that sounds like fun. Kat goes out to her car and brings in her soldering tools!! (Love an organized girl :}

My friend June came and decided she'd opt for soldering too. Julie had a power outage in Solano Beach and got there late and wondered what the heck we were doing? She decided to go with ATC cards (darn it I forgot to take pics of her work) sorry Julie.

We had fun fluxing, soldering, talking and trying not to burn ourselves :} You never know what happens at Art Meetup.

Soldering with Terri Brush

I had a wonderful day today at Mermaid Mermaid Mercantile in Solano Beach. I had signed up to do a Terri Brush soldering class and choose the Sunday class to make either a soldered box or a glass house-shaped shrine.

When I showed up to class today I found out we were going to do BOTH!!! Wow, how cool is that?

Most of the day was spent in designing, collaging and assembling before soldering. In between, shopping, lunch, chatting, laughing and more fun.

I sat across from Kathy from Chicago, Shawn from Northern California and Julie Haymaker Thompson from New Mexico. Last year, Julie had taught us some great techniques in the Sandcastle Siren's Art Retreat. So I was so lucky to meetup with her again and watch her amazing creative process (Yes, Julie it is an amazing creative process.i.e. Cherry Fairy :)

Here's my creations....my glass box has a picture of my Mother at the age of 6. I am oh so lucky that she was the first born and my Grandparents had some professional pics taken.

It is fun to be creative with a great group of ladies. Here's to more of that!!

KC Willis, a well-known fabric collage artist who holds retreats at her home in Colorado. She is on the road this summer and luckily we are one of her stops!

KC will be teaching at the Urban Barn. ln this fast-paced one-day class you will learn the basics of fabric collage techniques including aging, photo transfers, laying out for texture, fabric and paper collages for embellishing and adding the bling.

Bingo and Belt Buckles

I was working on organizing my studio today but like alot of times I get side tracked....oops :}

I came across a bingo game I bought at an estate sale last month. The box was torn but I did love the graphics. It came with bingo cards dated 1941 and some numbered wooden bingo markers so I know I could use those.

Still I did love the box as it is so vintage so I decided to frame it. I took a old gold frame, painted it white and added a black glaze BINGO...it looked good I think.

I cut and glued the box to fit the frame and BINGO...it's hanging in my studio....love it.

THEN....I continued "organizing" and I found some bling and thought hey I should start working on that belt buckle for my granddaughter's 16th birthay in a week. I found a belt buckle at the thrift store with some rhinestones and thought it would be a great base for "bling".

I think it turned out good....have to find a belt to go on the buckle and I'll be done.....hey maybe I can find it "when I organizing" ha ha

I found her a couple years ago on-line and fell in love with her coffee-stained, doo dad trimmed vintage fabric collages. I'm on her mailing list and earlier this month I got an email saying she would be in the LA area.

What the heck, I shot off and email to her asking if she would like to come to San Diego and she replied "SURE".

Mermaid Mercantile

Glitterfest in Santa Ana was Saturday and I had planned to attend but decided against the 1-1/2 drive and stayed home.

I did feel a tinge of regret because I wanted to shop and get some art inspiration....luckily Mermaid Mercantile was scheduled in Solano Beach on Sunday so I decided to buzz on over for a couple of hours.

The weather was breezy but the sun was out and there were lots of vendors. I did get a nice graduation present for my niece and some flea finds to make me happy and friendly hugs and art inspiration so it was a nice day for a short trip.

Little RED Coffee Table

When my granddaughter moved from her apartment after graduating from UCSD I went to help and came away with two tables. A coffee table and a craft table. I have been reading on the net about painting furniture and using glaze and thought this coffee table would be a good challenge for me.

It didn't turn out as I envisioned but it does look nice. I will be giving it back to my granddaughter or her MOther (I'm not getting into that argument.) ha ha

If it doesn't fit into their decor I might be painting it white who knows. I think it changed the look, don't you?

Sea Shells by the Sea Shore

I am envisioning redecorating my living room to a seashore decor so when I am shopping I have that in mind.

I had spotted this little star basket at a thrift store a couple weeks ago and later thought "oh, I should have bought that and painted it". I week back a few days later and of course, it was GONE....typical.

Then I stopped into the thrift store for a quick look see on my way to the grocery store and wandered around....low and behold....there was the star basket, they had moved it to a 4th of July display in the store. EUREKA.....I have a vision and can't wait to play.

I spray painted it white.....easy, peasy. Looked different already. Then I glue seashells on the lid to give it the ocean feel. I love the way it looks.

Woo Hoo!!! Wanted to share my great find at the local thrift store last week. I spotted it out of the corner of my eye and rushed over to grab it.

It had all it's parts except for a battery cover on the back. It also had a label "sold as is" so I didn't know if it worked or not but I wanted it.

Brought it home and put in two AA batteries and 2 "C" batteries BOOM...it worked PeReCTLy yay!!

Now I know what day it is and what time it is AnYTIME.

1960's flip calendar/clock......I call this my retro/vintage clock....love it!!

Olivenhain Grove Sale

Yesterday, I took off early in the morning to go to the Olivenhain Grove Sale (Encinitas). Luckily my GPS took me right there otherwise I would have been lost in the middle of lemon groves.

The setup...30 wonderful vintage vendors in the middle of a huge amount of property. The parking was a little tricky but it was organized so that there were shuttles back and forth to a little parking lot to keep the neighborhood happy.

Lots of fun and beautiful things. I tried to stay within my budget and luckily didn't need any large pieces of furniture but oh I would have loved a couple tee hee

I Love FREE Stuff!!!

I went garage sale shopping last weekend....I bought some "good stuff" I'll show you in another post but along the way there was one house that decided it was time to close up shop and left some STUFF on the driveway saying FREE....Of course I could not pass up a chance at FREE so I took a look and did take a few things that really I did not need but it was FREE :}

One thing was this plastic wreath...I'm sure it was beautiful when they first bought it but I thought "hey a little spray paint and I can reuse it for awhile for fun".

I took off the ribbon and the "grassy" stuff and sprayed it white and then I spent a rainy afternoon modge podging the pears on the wreath with dictionary pages. After that I painted the berries a golden orange color and edged some of the leaves with the same color. I then took a tissue sheet from an old pattern and twisted it into a bow and glued it on.

Ta Da a little spring wreath for the door. I bet at Christmas I could spray the leaves red and use it for the holidays....but by then I am sure I will find more FREE stuff I can re-purpose.

April showers bring May flowers............can't wait.

Altering Book at Art Meetup

Second Tuesday of the month and we all gathered at my home to "play". There were 7 of us with two new faces. It's always nice to meet new people and see what they are doing. Welcome Mary Jane and Julie.

Of course, I was having so much fun that I didn't take out my camera until after a few had left and I lost the chance to take pictures of their beautiful work in their books...typical of me. I always have fun hosting art meetup and talking and playing.

Anyway, here's what I took. June did a bunny book of all the bunnies she has had. June is new to altering and I like to try and get her to RiP and iNk and StAin and she resists as she knows what she likes. It came out so nice.......thanks for not listening to me tee hee

Her friend, Julie who she knows through "Ushering". Ushering - volunteer to Usher at plays like at Old Town and Balboa Park and then you get to watch the play for free. Julie is new to the group but I can tell from her book she is no stranger to altering. She already had a cute pocket made in her book and some painting. The pages I saw looked lovely.....thanks for coming Julie!

I was happy to see our friend Jane, bringing everything but her kitchen sink ha ha Jane said she had already started a book quite awhile ago so she felt good about getting it out again and adding to it.

Her pages and touches were beautiful......man I got to get my camera working so you can all see the detail of the art being made......so beautiful.

Decorating for Art Meetup

I was outside this morning before the rain came through doing some weeding and trying to make a lane to front door cause I have been doing some furniture painting and have made a mess...but my furniture painting escapades are for a later post :}

I was cleaning out the front porch and decided it was time for a new "vignette" so when the ladies arrive for Art Meetup tomorrow they will be greeted with a new look.

I do feel Blessed for my friends and their inspiration. Have a wonderful week.

About a month ago I took a soldering class with Rita at the Mermaid Mercantile. I had such a good time, you can see my project here.

I have been trying to do a soldering project but "things" have gotten in the way. Yesterday, I drug out my soldering tools and took this tiny bottle I found and an earring and tried my hand at soldering. I had a good time and look forward to clearing the table and doing more....thanks Rita :}

I wanted to show you this cute little Easter sign that Sandy from Sandy's Creations made and sent to me allllll the way from Canada. She also sent candy but I can't show you that....all gone :} It was a delightful surprise and oh so cute...thanks Sandy, you're the best!

Junk in My Trunk

This is NOT an April Fool's joke just sounds like it :}

Okay, Okay it's not what you think! In the last post I talked about attending the opening of the Urban Barn and I was thinking.....(eeeek!! I'm thinking again!)

I am addicted to shopping for "junk" and vintage items especially at my local thrift stores. I bring home "things" that I think I could create with but it's more like when can I ever create with EVERYTHING I've brought home?

So, I thought who could be my best customer....vendors!!! They are always on the lookout for things to create with and they are busy selling so they don't have as much time as I do to SHOP. ha ha

Soooooo, before the friday sale I filled my truck trunk full of objects I loved when I purchased but know I should let go of.....hopefully they will find a good home.

Soooooooo when Bonnie and I went to the sale, I just mentioned to a few unique vendors and my friends......come check out the "junk in my trunk". They did and I gave them good deals so they can create and if they want to resell they could still make a profit.

Sooooooo I was able to get some of my money back plus a little extra which I proceeded to spend.

I explained this to my husband but he proceeded to tell me that I was not making any money that way. MEN......I told him I really wasn't doing it to make tons of $$$$'s just a way to support my shopping habit. Ooops maybe that was a bit too much information for him.....as he doesn't see all the "junk in my truck" I bring home when I'm out "shopping." tee hee

If you see me in my truck, ask to see my "junk in the trunk" you never know I might have something you want :}

If you have some time, check out our Owls in an Owl Box in San Marcos here locally. They are barn owls Molly the mommy and McGee the Daddy. So far 4 babies. I am addicted to watching and sometimes freaked out by their eating habits but this is nature and that's the way it is. I am learning alot about owls and it's a great reality nature show :}

What I did last Friday

Friday the 26th was the GRAND OPENING of the Urban Barn aka La Maison Rustique originally in Temecula. They have ventured down our way to open an industrial site with 8,000 square feet for selling, classes and gatherings.

I am excited because not only will they have their once a month barn sale but they will be open weekly for 4 days starting April 1. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday's. Need a VINTAGE Fix.....drive on down.

Of Course, Malitda's Mouse (Valley Center) was open that same day so Bonnie and myself took off after the Urban Barn opening and did some more shopping.

At the front, on a table was a huge lovely rusty cage with baby chicks. I wish I took better pictures but it was so cute seeing these cute little chickies......I don't get to see baby animals that often. They had heat lamps set up to make sure they were warm and cozy.

Malitda's Mouse is named after her doggie, a wired haired Terrier. She was there lounging on her beautiful bed.

It was a beautiful day and there was lots of beautiful STUFF. I managed to escape without buying anything but Bonnie found a few "treasures" :}

I have more pictures but I have to resize and I'm tired :} After Matilda's Mouse we stopped by an Estate Sale in Valley Center that Bonnie's friend was working at.

Lots of fun stuff and YES, we BOTH bought more STUFF....but that's for another post.

Chateau de Fleur Market Place

I heard about Chateau de Fleur Market Place on Rita's blog a couple weeks ago and I said OH BOY shopping with Creative Ladies. I called my friend Bonnie M. and said there's going to be a vendor sale and barn sales up in your area....let's go!!

The rest is history.........it was soooo much fun. The weather was wonderful and the art was fantastic and the shopping ooh la la :}

I took a few pics but honestly I was too busy shopping and talking. After the Chateau de Fleur Market Place we got a map to 3 other barn sales so we took off and it was so funny cause across the street from one barn sale was a garage sale. So, of course, I had to check it out....oh my gosh, the guy had a record player!!!!!

I have been looking for one for a long time. It's from the 60's and kinda works ha ha
He sold it to me with about 100 LP's and a stand for $25!!!!! I was shocked and soooo happy.

I LOVE Vintage

Me and MANY, Many others love everything vintage. It is so much fun to move from blog to blog and check out the vintage arts and views.

I am still trying to perfect my sign scribing. I found a piece of old wood...actually it was from an old vintage wooden suitcase that broke apart but I kept the back side with hinges included.

I scribed my letters and colored them in. Then I added some coffee stained ruffles and lace with a little bling.

Taa Daaa I am liking it :}

Soldering with Rita

I had a wonderful day at Solona Beach with the Queen of Soldering, Rita of Mammabellarte. She and other talented vendors have been spending there month end time at the Mermaid Mercantile.

The day was so bright and lovely following a day of rain and storming. This is Rita's BELLA dress form. I love her skirt of "caging". So inventive!

Now when you take a class with Rita, she Feeds you! A lovely brown bag was awaiting me with her homemade pumpkin bread and some blood orange soda. YUMMY! The pumpkin bread had white and chocolate chips. I had some on my break of soldering and finished it up for breakfast Monday. OH So gOOD :}

It was a lovely day and we were outside working on our projects. A bottle turned into a picture holder and a bubble pendant.

A peek inside "Out of the Blue" store that holds the Mermaid Mercantile vendor show monthly.

I got to see one of Rita's FAMOUS bird houses in person that she has on her blog. It is postively beautiful .....what a carpenter she is!

Rita has a couple new pieces made of metal. They are eye catching. She is not sure what we would use them for but we had lots of suggestions like use as a necklace, put in collage, on a book, on a purse. Lovely!

Creativity Nourishes the Soul

A little vignette outiside my front door ....I like it and at least I was able to store these things here until I figure out where I finally want them.

I hate to sound all new agey but creating does nourish me or fill me with inspiration. I get one idea from someone and have to try it. It seems that I bounce from one mixed media project to another but so what?

It's ME and I guess I get a kick out of trying a project out and seeing it come to fruition.

Here's a couple items I've made recently.

I made this for Jane's birthday. I found this cool candle holder at Costco all nice and new and what do I do? I go and sand and paint and distress and hammer it. tee hee

I hung religious metals to the side with nails and screws. Boy that wood was hard.

I had a china plate that my husband hates me using when serving dinner so I decided to practice china painting! Got the idea from Rita's blog where she explained how to "stencil" wooden signs. Grazi Rita! Great idea.

Don't we all love a Surprise?

Today in the mail I got a box from a friend, Rita. I had given her some bottles last weekend because I am trying to downsize but hate to throw anything away :}

Rita solders beautiful bottles and jewelry and even teaches soldering classes. So what a great way to recycle. It is fun to "Pass it on" and see what becomes of little glass bottles and what they can turn into.

Rita sent me one of her beautiful bottles and personalized it for me as a thank you. I really appreciate it and who doesn't love SuRprises :}

If you get a chance, check out her blog as she has a giveaway going for her blog one year anniversary. There is always alot of great info and eye candy on her blog. I like to visit it almost daily.

Delightful DIVA

I was at Georgia's home last week with some very creative ladies. (okay maybe two weeks ago now, time flies :) I didn't want to "drag" too much stuff with me so I decided to work on my version of a paper wreath that I have seen at a local scrapbook store "Paper Tales" and in the new Green Magazine by Stampington.

I was at CHA last week (two weeks?? eeek) and there was alot of paper sculpture used to make dresses, shoes, banners, wreaths.

Also, I was at Anthropologies and saw this amazing paper sculpture of a big bird.

Here's my attempt at paper sculpture. I have a picture of the beginning and then the finished DIVA wreath.

Button Flowers at Art Meetup

What fun......a bunch of friends and a bunch of flowers. To me there is something soothing about running your fingers thru "tons" of buttons and looking at all the types and colors.

We all got together today to make "button flowers". As usual I was inspired when I saw what each person created.

Maryam brought some yummy dove chocolates and a cute little valentine's dish and vintage post cards....I feel so loved :} Maryam is a Dove Chocolatier and she is working with Dove to raise money for her charity The Cancer Coping Center. She has chocolate to sell and/or she'll come to your home or organization and hold a chocolate tasting party yummy.......email her if you're interested at Mdavodifar@yahoo.com.

Matina brought cookies and her friend, Eileen from Chicago. Eileen is going home tomorrow (if the airport opens. ha) It was great to meet her and glad she was able to experience our ART MEETUP. She made some cute button flowers and thinks maybe this is something she could do with her grandkids....yeah that's a great idea.

I made some valentine cones for my friends a little candy and a little note to thank you for being a special friend.

P.S. I don't know why I didn't get a picture of Jane, it was so fun to see her beautiful face. Also, Jane is looking for some old weathered wood to use as a canvas for a creation. It should be large like over 24 inch x 24 inch. If you have something to donate to her (check your garage, your neighbors trash), let her know. Don't you want to see what she will make with it??? :}

Tic Tock It's Art Time!

I decided I needed a BIG clock in my studio but decided on a "do it myself" type project. I went to Home Goods (don't you just love that store?) bought this huge wall clock in the clearance section for $12.

Brought it home and collaged and added some of my "bits and pieces" to indicate minutes.

It works and I love it......I guess it is ART TIME!

Button, Button, Whose Got the Button?

Luckily, my friend Maryam has a good eye and while at the Antique show spotted a flyer for a "Button Show" in San Diego and she was good enough to pass that info on to me.

Of course, there would be button collectors but who knew their obsession is as great as us that love scrapbooking and altering and always on the hunt for vintage items :}

Apparently, there are National Societys of Button Collectors and lots of states and cities have their own club for sharing knowledge and buying, selling and trading their buttons.

This small but mighty group set up their booths in a small room and outside in the patio, maybe only 8 to 10 vendors but TONS of buttons. Buttons from the turn of the century, buttons made of cloth, made of bakelite, made of plastic. Buttons themed such as pets, metal, victorian, wooden, sparkly, etc.

Seems these collectors take cardboard and poke holes in rows and attach their buttons so you can thumb thru there boxes of cardboard sheets looking for just the perfect button.

I bought this card of buttons (see it underneath my other finds) for only $3. I thought I could maybe add some clipart where some buttons are missing and frame it...very cute. I went for for just a quick look and stayed quite awhile.

This club is so generous as they had coffee and cookies and rolls and even put out lunch for everyone.
