Treasures of the Street

Saturday, garage sale day! Out I went in search of treasure and found some fun stuff.

Check out the brass lady. I think she was a door knocker but lost her swing arm. I still think it would be great to hang jewelry on or ALTER????

I got 2 packs of HP Transparencies unopened for 50 cents each!!! I'm going to try ink transfers with them...I hope.

Oh....there's more, I didn't take a picture of all of it ha ha I got 4 wooden chairs for $6!!!! Since I am doing Art Meetup at my home I need more chairs...probably should get folding chairs but for now $1.50 a chair is a deal....just where to store them is the problem :}

Hope you had a great weekend, what did you find during your weekend?

Soldering 101

Well I promised myself TODAY I would do some art and I DID!

I will share some of my other art I made in another post but wanted to show you what I soldered.

I bought a kit from Simply Swank and watched the DVD the other day. Oh by the way, I have the soldering kit, book and DVD on sale on my website if you want to join me in learning to solder. Check them out by clicking here.

Oh, it looks soooo easy....bing, bang, boom and I'll be a soldering queen in no time........well maybe not that quick :}

My first challenge was to get the clip art to fit the entire glass slide and when it didn't I just improvised and added some copper tape in a zig zag...doesn't look bad I think.

I felt awkward but don't we all when we first start doing a new technique? I didn't add a jump ring because I feel it could be ALOT better and the DVD says you can remove the solder just by reheating and do it over again so I might do that.

My friend, Alane, from Art Sizzles will be coming over to give me some tips and techniques next week so I am hoping I improve :}

I want to thank Denise over at Hope Tree Studios for tagging me. For two reasons, it's nice to be remembered and it gives me something to Blog about without hurting my brain! ha Denise at Hope Tree Studio has some great handmade items and is a beautiful person inside and out.

New Blog Banner

Not sure if you noticed but I have added a new blog banner.

I think I must have been lucky because I was scanning Etsy looking for someone to create a banner for my blog and hit upon one store that looked cute. I emailed the owner and asked if she could make me a banner from my clip art.

Well, Sandy, the owner replied sure! I emailed her some of my ideas and some clip art and she DID NOT disappoint! She took my clip art and used her skills to make them "pretty" and "artistic" and gave me what I wanted the very first time!

I'm a junkque type of person and wanted to have a few of the things I love on the banner along with my favorite vintage family photos. I think it says who I am.

Now Sandy doesn't need your clip art to do a banner or avatar or piece of art for you, just an idea of what you want.

If any of you are thinking of getting a blog banner, website banner, clip art piece you should contact her. She works fast and will give you more than you bargained for at very little expense.

Check out her Etsy site Blog Banner Queen or check out her Blog.

Yes, she also made me this cute little Dollie Sezs icon....Love, Love it!

Art Meetup for May

Lots going on in the mist of San Diego everchanging weather. Early in the week we had 90 and 100 degree weather and at the end of the week rain and 60 degree weather what the heck is going on?

Tuesday, May 20th we had are second Art Day Meetup and boy was it fun. Jane from Art Takes A Village led us in a class that was fun and quick moving. We blinged bottles that can hold bath salts or whatever our hearts desire and made a cute little cupcake flower pot.

We were gluing and blinging and talking and laughing. Creating Art makes you feel good.

Check out some of our creations.

Our June Art Day Meetup will be June 17th so check back to see what our project will be.

In July, we will have a guest instructor. Miss Vicky from Cut-it Up. Miss Vicky is a talented and creative lady that has been in the mixed media industry on the cutting edge for several years now. You won't want to miss that class.

Have a great Memorial Day!

I Need to be Creative!

I've been soooo busy organizing and re-organizing, running errands, shopping, etc. etc. etc.

Still I keep saying I want to take time to be creative but just don't feel like I'm at the right place. I love to read other fellow artists blogs and see how creative they are in their busy lives.  I always thought I was good at multi-tasking but lately can't seem to do it.  I do envy those that can be so creative everyday.

I figured I wanted to try out this new editor for blogging "Windows Live Writer" so I thought I would blog some of my "older" art pieces to get me inspired.

This is a canvas collage I did in a Chris Cozen class (Golden Paints).  The little girl is my Mother.

This is a page out of an altered book I did for my niece's graduation.  I glued pages together and cut a niche for the watch.  I used spackle to cover the page and inked the peaks.Copy of timeisonyourside1
